Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)
Adding an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), sometimes referred to as a “mother-in-law suite,” enables homeowners to create extra living space on their property. Great for hosting family, guests, or short-term renters, ADUs increase property value for owners and allow privacy for residents.
The city of Phoenix permits up to two ADUs in addition to the primary dwelling unit, unless the primary unit is a duplex or triplex. The ADU can be attached or detached, and can often be converted from existing garages or carports.
New Construction
As a Design/Build contractor, Kirk Development Company can assist with the construction of your new Accessory Dwelling Unit and ensure it follows Phoenix regulations on size and placement.
During the process, we listen and gather information about your goals for the unit, your budget for the project, and your vision for the design. Learn more about our design/build process here.
Remodeling
If you have an existing unit on your property that you would like transformed into an Accessory Dwelling Unit, our team excels at residential remodeling.
Phoenix also has specific regulations regarding what must happen on your property when existing spaces are turned into ADUs, and our team will ensure the remodel complies with code. For example, garage or carport conversions require establishing new
equivalent parking locations elsewhere on the lot, not in the front setback area.
